Smalltown Boy - Bronski Beat - The Age Of Consent von Jimmy Sommerville
The first single off of Bronski Beat's "The Age of Consent", "Smalltown Boy", was recorded at The Garden studio (owned by former Ultravox singer John Foxx) and mixed at Maison Rouge studio, both of them based in London. It was released in June 1984, peaked at number 3 in the UK singles pop charts and is a poetically poignant, soul searching composition addressing homophobia, loneliness and family misunderstanding. It is accompanied by a video of Jimmy Somerville with fellow band member friends Larry Steinbachek and Steve Bronski who, while cruising at a public swimming pool and changing room, are attacked and beaten up by a gang of homophobes. Somerville is returned to his family by the police; he leaves home alone and has a reunion with friends Steinbachek and Bronski, travelling to a new life on a train. - gerade entdeckt auf Soundcloud

Harlan Coben arbeitet wieder mit den bekannten Versatzstücken seiner bisherigen Romane (Protagonist lebt in New Jersey, ist Mitte/Ende 30 und hat einen guten Job; Protagonist hat aber auch ein schlimmes Trauma erlitten und einen engen Angehöriogen verloren, der aber möglicherweise doch gar nicht tot ist). Doch diesmal spielt Coben geschickt mit den allen Coben-Fans hinlänglich bekannten Puzzle-Stücken und führt die Leser damit geschickt in die Irre.

I'm just back from a fifth hospitalisation in about 10 months. Not so good. Quite bad actually, since I got two very serious infections in the abdomen that had to be drained surgically (no fun!). And now the still need to operate and take the "bad part" out. Meh... Anyway : I was so high on fever, medication, anti-biotics (and still spinning around as we speek), that I got sound bits and bytes (like scratching a hard drive) in my head. Meanwhile I was again unable to sleep (yeah, again for over a week I wasn't able to sleep, and even when I fell asleep, it was for about 30mins/day max). The insomnia was driving me insane, together with the meds, and that's how this little piece of slices, splices and filters came to life with the help of some drum machines.
