Review: Third Watch

Neben “The Academy“ eine weitere Kurzgeschichte von Robert Dugoni über die toughe Polizistin Tracy Crosswhite aus Seattle. Auch diese Story spielt zeitlich vor dem Roman “Das Grab meiner Schwester“.

Tracy arbeitet seit sieben Jahren im Streifendienst des Seattle PD - dort bevorzugt in der Nachtschicht, intern “Third Watch“ genannt. Sie reizt die Spannung und Aufregung in der Nacht. Doch als eine junge Journalistin sie begleitet, um eine Reportage über die Arbeit weiblicher Polizisten in Seattle zu schreiben, entwickelt sich die “Third Watch“ zu einem lebensgefährlichen Einsatz.

Tracy muss verhindern, dass ein gewalttätiger Familienvater seine Angehörigen und sich selbst tötet. Dabei ist sie auf sich allein gestellt und erlebt ihre größte Bewährungsprobe seit dem Tod ihrer Schwester.

Eine Kurzgeschichte, die noch mehr Einblick in das Leben und den Charakter von Robert Dugonis Protagonistin Tracy Crosswhite verschafft. 5 von 5 Sternen *****

Review: The Academy: A Short Story

The Academy: A Short Story by Robert Dugoni

Eine Kurzgeschichte über die Polizistin Tracy Crosswhite - bekannt aus den Romanen "Das Grab meiner Schwester" und "Ihr allerletzter Atemzug" von Robert Dugoni.

Die Story spielt einige Jahre zuvor, als sich Tracy entschliesst, ihren Job als Chemielehrerin an den Nagel zu hängen und sich bei der Polizei von Seattle zu bewerben. Sie hat Glück, dass die Polizeibehörde gerade bevorzugt weibliche Kräfte einstellen möchte; wenngleich dies einigen männlichen Kollegen überhaupt nicht behagt.

Bei ihrer Bewerbung beeindruckt sie durch einen hervorragend abgeschlossenen Eignungstest sowie durch sehr selbstbewusstes und schlagfertiges Auftreten im Bewerbungsgespräch. Doch auf der Polizeiakademie gerät sie mehrmals heftig mit Detective Nolasco aneinander - ein Chauvinist der alten Schule. Auf der Akademie beginnt eine Feindschaft zwischen den beiden, die dann über mehrere Jahrzehnte anhält und Tracy immer wieder ihre Arbeit erschwert.

Dass Nolasco und Crosswhite Intimfeinde sind, wird in den oben genannten Romanen immer wieder deutlich. In "The Academy" erfährt man, wie und warum dies begonnen hat und bietet noch einige Hintergrundinfos zu Tracy Crosswhite. Keine Krimistory, aber eine interessante Bereicherung für alle, die die Romane mit Tracy Crosswhite gelesen haben oder noch lesen möchten. Daher 5 von 5 Sternen *****
